WOODLANDs
Karen and Peter were reaching retirement age and saw an opportunity to fulfil a lifelong dream: to design and build their own home. The house they had been living in for the past twenty years had been built in the 1960s, and whilst full of happy memories, had reached the end of its useful life. They wanted a new home that they could enjoy growing old in, a place where they could invite friends to stay and place to entertain.
They wanted a house which would have a minimal impact on the environment. The house was therefore built to be as energy efficient as possible using high levels of insulation and a high level of airtightness. The materials used were also environmentally friendly - the timber frame not only has a low carbon footprint, but also ‘locks up’ the carbon it contains and is FSC certified meaning it is harvested from a renewable source.
Peter and Karen wanted a house which would takes full advantage of views and daylight throughout the day. The breakfast room on the east is bright and sunny in the morning. The living area is located on the west, allowing them to enjoy long evenings and a view over their beautiful back garden.
This project was designed and project-managed by Luba whilst working at Facit Homes.
