Jutaku House
Tony and Sue and been living in London, and the high levels of air pollution was creating health problems for Sue. They decided that they wanted to move out of the city and create a healthier life for themselves.
As high-end jewellery makers, they were interested in the concept of a house as a jewellery box - a simple and efficient building form, with a focus on the details and materials inside. Inspired by the ‘Jutaku’ tiny house movement in Japan, they wanted a compact, efficient home for modern living.
A monochromatic colour pallete was consistently applied throughout the house – white walls, lighting fixtures and joinery, grey floors and worktops, and matt-black render, saniware and electrical fixtures. This provided a blank canvas for them to furnish the house with their ‘jewels’.
Their new home included MVHR – this is a ventilation system which provides the whole house with fresh, warm, filtered air. Instead of carpets, which often contain allergens, the floors were finished with micro-cement and timber. The walls were painted with zero-VOC paint. As the building is so well insulated, condensation and mould are non-existent.
Jutaku House was designed and project managed by Luba whilst working at Facit Homes.
